Blue Canvas

Final Featured Artist

So here at last is my final Featured Artist post. Over the last 12 months I’ve enjoyed perusing the wide variety of artwork that has been uploaded to the Artful Kids Flickr Group, and choosing which artist to feature.  I’ve tended to choose artworks which seem to have most input from the child themselves, and where it looks like the child has not only really tried, but also enjoyed creating their artwork.

I felt that both were true of this canvas artwork by Max, the 2 year old son of Maggy at Red Ted Art. It looks as though he really got hands on with the paint, and he’s produced something really tactile as a result. I love the colour on this artwork particularly – the blue background was an inspired choice, even though this may or may not have been the choice of  the artist himself ;) It just goes to show that even the youngest artists can produce a piece of wall-art which looks really good, and because it’s on canvas it will be both lasting and eye-catching.

A personalised mug from Foto.com, featuring the artwork will soon be wending it’s way to Max.

Although the regular Featured Artist series has finished for the time being, I still plan to regularly feature artwork uploaded to the Flickr group, so watch this space.  You may have noticed for example that I now have a permanent Flickr widget on the site featuring contributions.  I will also shortly be inviting readers to vote for their favourite piece of art uploaded to the group, with the winner receiving an Artful Kids prize worth at least £70.00.  I still have to work out the details, but in the meantime make sure you upload any promising artwork that your kids produce to be in with a chance.  Contributions should be the work of a child under 12 years old, and are restricted to paintings and drawings only.
